Biography:
Azrael is a DC Comics character, primarily associated with Batman. There have been several characters who have taken on the mantle of Azrael, but the most well-known is Jean-Paul Valley.
Jean-Paul Valley first appeared in Batman: Sword of Azrael #1 (1992). He was genetically engineered and trained by the Sacred Order of Saint Dumas to be their enforcer, Azrael. Valley is a highly skilled fighter, but also suffers from psychological conditioning that makes him prone to violence and instability.
During the "Knightfall" storyline, after Bane breaks Batman's back, Bruce Wayne chooses Valley to become the new Batman. However, Valley's methods are far more brutal and extreme than Wayne's, leading to him becoming a dangerous vigilante. Ultimately, Bruce Wayne recovers and defeats Valley, reclaiming the mantle of Batman.
